This heat shield is designed to insulate surrounding components from exhaust pipe and catalytic converter heat and to prevent injury from accidental contact. We recommend using this shield to protect Improved Racing oil cooler adapters from radiant exhaust heat that could affect oil temperatures. It can also be used to shield transmissions and differentials from exhaust heat.

Originally designed to insulate the factory oil cooler and Improved Racing oil cooler adapters on the C6 and C7 Corvettes from extreme heat produced by exhaust systems, this heat shield also fits many other applications. It can be strapped to the factory catalytic converter or the collector on aftermarket headers with stainless steel worm-drive clamps or stainless steel zip ties (both are included).

The shield is designed to be installed in two possible orientations, allowing it to be used with smaller diameter pipes of approximately 1.75"-3.00"(44.5-76.2mm) OD or larger pipes such as header collectors and catalytic converters of approximately 4"-7" (105-178mm) OD. On smaller pipes, the overall length of the shield is 13" (330mm). In the larger pipe orientation, the overall length is 5.7" (145mm).

The exterior layer is manufactured from basalt fabric (also known as "lava rock") and has a maximum continuous operating temperature of 700-900°C (1,292-1,652°F). The shield is stuffed with ceramic fabric for insulation and the inner layer is made from silica fabric, which has a maximum operating temperature of 1,000-1,350°C (1,832-2,462°F).

The kit includes worm clamps in two different sizes as well as 190mm (7.5") max OD stainless steel zip ties to accommodate most pipe sizes.
